Also referred to as a double cross or Pozidriv, the Z-shaped cross recess represents an advancement of the cross drive introduced by the Phillips Screw Company. Unlike the conventional cross drive, the four flanks of the screwdriver blade in the Z-shaped version do not taper towards the tip. This design enhances the lateral grip for the screwdriver bit and diminishes the occurrence of the so-called cam-out effect. The cam-out effect is typical in traditional cross drives, where the tapering causes the bit to be pushed upward and out by the torque exerted by the cordless screwdriver.
