Here Are 5 Tips On How To Use Anchor Bolts, And How To Install Them:
1. Masonry and concrete anchor bolts vary depending upon the manufacturer, so ensure you read the instructions first. This should reveal information such as the size of the drill-bit you will need, as well as the depth of hole you will need to drill.
2. Ensuring the depth gauge is set to those specified by the manufacturer, insert the masonry bit into your drill and drill the hole into the concrete. Remove all debris from the hole, such as concrete dust, to ensure the bolt will fit properly.
3. Screw the washer to the top of the anchor bolt, ensuring it is flush against the top of the bolt. Then insert the anchor bolt into the pre-drilled hole. You can hammer the nut to ensure the anchor bolt hits the bottom of the hole.
4. Tighten the nut on the anchor bolt with a wrench until it clicks. Ensure not to add too much torque as this can affect the hold capacity of the anchor. Information on how much torque to use will be provided within the manufacturer’s instructions.
5. Simply remove the washer and nut from the anchor bolt and it is ready for use.
Different Types Of Anchor Bolts
Anchor bolts can be used with a variety of materials including concrete, brick, block and stone. There are an array of different through bolts available that are best suited to the materials you are working with.
Shield anchor loose bolts are ideal for use with solid materials such as brick and concrete. However, they aren’t suitable when working with hollow brick. Projection bolts are great for fixing into masonry and concrete. Hook anchor bolts are also perfect when applied to brick, concrete and blocks.
